MuseoCare: Museums, Art Therapy and Mental Health

MuseoCare: Cultural rights — looking, speaking, taking part

During the first MuseoCare cycle, a mural about human rights at MACAM became the starting point for different encounters, questions and interpretations.
Participants approached the work in different ways. Conversations emerged around education, women’s rights, equality and freedom of expression, while other moments began simply with curiosity, observation and the desire to look more closely.

These encounters brought another dimension of MuseoCare into focus: cultural rights.

Access to a museum is not only about being able to enter its doors. It is also about having the opportunity to encounter artworks, interpret them, ask questions, express a point of view and take part in cultural life.

MuseoCare therefore raises a broader question: what becomes possible when people receiving mental health care are welcomed not only as patients, but as museum visitors, interpreters and participants in culture?

Through the dialogue between artistic practice, cultural mediation and mental health care, the project explored ways of creating spaces in which different forms of expression and participation could emerge.

MuseoCare is conceived and developed by Red Oak, in partnership with MACAM and the Psychiatric Hospital of the Cross
