Wheelchair Basketball: Bringing an Inclusive Sports Journey to a Close
After a series of wheelchair basketball sessions at Chouf National College, students came together for a final friendly match marking the culmination of their experience.
Over the course of the sessions, the participants developed their skills, gained confidence and learned to experience sport from a new perspective. Playing wheelchair basketball together gave them an opportunity not only to engage in a new sporting practice, but also to build connections and learn through a shared experience.
The final event brought this journey to life in front of a wider audience. Fellow students joined as spectators, alongside representatives from La Guilde, the French Embassy in Lebanon, the Municipality of Baakline, Scale School and SNS.
More than the outcome of the games themselves, the day celebrated the progress and commitment of the participants. It also highlighted the role sport can play in creating opportunities for encounter, raising awareness around disability and encouraging values of respect, empathy, cooperation and inclusion.
Red Oak would like to thank all 30 students for their enthusiasm and engagement, as well as the teachers, teams, partners and guests who contributed to making this experience possible. We also thank Bchoufak for covering the event and helping share its message with a wider audience.
This initiative is part of the project "Bodies in Motion, Hearts in Connection", implemented by Red Oak in collaboration with La Guilde and with the support of the French Embassy in Lebanon.
