Red Oak has launched MuseoCare, a new initiative creating bridges between museums and mental health care through artistic practice, cultural mediation and therapeutic approaches.

Developed by Red Oak in partnership with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Lebanon (MACAM) and the Psychiatric Hospital of the Cross, MuseoCare marks the first collaboration of its kind in Lebanon between a museum and a psychiatric hospital.

The project is built around a series of sessions taking place across both the museum and the hospital. It brings together drama therapy, art therapy, artistic mediation and cultural mediation, allowing participants to engage with artworks, museum spaces and creative processes in ways that support expression, participation and social connection.

The first session took place at MACAM, where participants explored the museum environment and its collections before taking part in a drama therapy workshop. A second session followed at the Psychiatric Hospital of the Cross, continuing the dialogue between the museum, artistic practice and the hospital setting. Further sessions will continue over the coming weeks across both spaces.

MuseoCare is rooted in Red Oak’s long-standing work at the intersection of culture, inclusion and well-being. It also reflects an ongoing process of research and practice exploring how museums can contribute to care pathways when their resources, spaces and collections are activated in partnership with mental health professionals.

This pilot is the first stage of a broader project that Red Oak aims to develop through a France – Lebanon cooperation, bringing together cultural and healthcare institutions, professional exchange, training and research.

Through MuseoCare, Red Oak seeks to contribute to the development of new models of collaboration between the cultural and mental health sectors, while creating meaningful opportunities for people living with mental health conditions to engage with art, museums and creative practice.
